In the swash plate machine, which has a central machine shaft (3) with oblique crankpin (4) in a housing (1), a plurality of cylinders (9) are arranged about the machine shaft (3), the pistons (10) of which are pivotably supported by way of connecting rods (12) on a swash plate (5), which is supported on the crankpin (4). On its circumference the swash plate (5) has a support ring (7), which is pressed against a counter-ring (8), which is arranged fixed to the housing, by the working pressure of the piston (10). Support ring (7) and counter-ring (8) form the reaction element. For positioning the swash plate (5) a positioning device (17), and in a variant a positioning device (28), is provided which ensures that the swash plate (5), due to moments of varying magnitude in the circumferential direction, departs only slightly from its prescribed position in relation to the cylinder arrangement and is brought back into its set position again. <IMAGE>
