A brake system for directional stability control systems (FSR) is proposed which, proceeding from an ABS/TCS brake system, has a first, dual-circuit brake pressure transmitter (1) and second brake pressure transmitters (2), which can be actuated independently of one another and are connected to the individual wheel brake cylinders (17, 18) and between which solenoid control valves (9), open in the absence of current, are connected. In order to upgrade the brake system to an active brake system, by means of which directional stability control sequences can be performed, both wheel brake cylinders (17, 18) of a brake circuit (I) are connected by way of a separating valve (10) to the first brake pressure transmitter (tandem master cylinder 3) and between the first brake pressure transmitter (tandem master cylinder 3) and the wheel brake cylinders (17, 18) further hydraulic connections (26, 27) are provided, which permit or prevent a volume exchange between the first brake pressure transmitter (tandem master cylinder 3) and the wheel brake cylinders (17, 18). <IMAGE>
