摘要 Process for detecting misfires in an internal combustion engine, the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine having assigned to it a sensor for determining the speed of rotation and at least one crankshaft segment being fixed for each cylinder. By means of the speed of rotation, the segment time (tSEG) is determined and the differences ( DELTA tSEG) are subsequently determined from two successive segment times (tSEGn, tSEGn-1). In a first phase, from the registered values for each operating point and each possible error, a multiplicity of process units is calculated, each of these process units being determined by means of a weighting vector and containing an item of information (I). These weighting vectors are stored in a memory unit of the internal combustion engine. In a second phase, during the operation of the internal combustion engine under operating conditions, sample vectors are calculated from the values now currently registered and are compared with learned individual weighting vectors of the process units. In this way, that process unit is selected which exhibits the smallest separation from the weighting vectors of the currently calculated sample vectors. Subsequently, the item of information from the process unit is output as a diagnostic result of the functioning of the internal combustion engine. <IMAGE>
