In order to be able to use the baking chamber, heatable electrically or by means of gas, of a cooker as a steam-cooking chamber, the baking chamber (11) is supplied with steam which is generated by means of an external steam generator (2) capable of being heated up by a cooking plate (142) heatable by means of gas or electrically. Furthermore, a condensation chamber (3) is constructed below the baking chamber (11). In this arrangement, the external steam generator is constructed as a pressure cooker (2) which is equipped with a pressure relief valve (21) and can be connected to the baking chamber (11) via a tubular connecting part (4), e.g. in the form of a flexible heat-resistant hose. <IMAGE>
