Compounds of formula A(OCl) n , wherein n is 1 or 2 and A is perfluoroalkyl or perfluoroalkylene radical wherein one or two of the fluorine atoms may be replaced by electronegative groups inert to the -OCl group, each carbon atom bearing the -OCl group being bonded to three other carbon atoms, are prepared by reaction of a compound of formula A(OH) n with C1F. Electronegative substituents specified are -SO 2 F, -SO 3 F, -NO 2 , perfluorocycloalkyl and perfluoroaryl radicals. The hypochlorites have bleaching, chlorinating, insecticidal and polymerization initiating properties. Chloroformates of formula A(OCOCl) n are prepared from the above hypochlorites by reaction with carbon monoxide. They are fumigants and polymerization catalysts. |
