Method and equipment for measuring gain error in a receiver of a base station of a cellular system and for improving field strength measurement. The method comprises measuring a signal received by the base station before and after a receiver unit (7) and correcting the power level after the receiver unit (7) to correspond to the power level of the signal determined before the receiver unit (7). The equipment comprises before the receiver unit (7) an accurate detector (13) of the power level of the signal, the power level of the signal detected by the detector being compared to the power level measured after the receiver unit (7).
