With plate catalysts, there is the problem of anchoring the catalytically active layer (16, 26, 43) sufficiently firmly to the metallic support structure (1, 18, 32). For this purpose, the invention provides that the metallic support structure has roughness recesses whose axis of symmetry is oriented at an angle alpha to a line normal to the surface.
