More and more, counterfeit money is being produced and brought into circulation. Many financial institutions and every citizen are not prepared for this in terms of equipment. There is the object of developing a method for detecting counterfeit money with the aid of the security strip, and of developing a mobile device for daily use for this purpose. This object is achieved in terms of method by testing the metal security strip (2) inductively or capacitively and/or optically for the presence and arrangement of the visible sections (3) and/or electrically for continuity, and by displaying the result optically or acoustically. The test device for this purpose consists of an energy source (9), a switch (10), a test unit (11), an electronic evaluator (12) and an optical or acoustic signal generator (8).
