摘要 A method of diagnosing the operation of an unidentified exhaust gas oxygen sensor includes the steps of storing signal parameters characterising operation of a plurality of reference sensors, gathering signal parameters characterising operation of the unidentified sensor, comparing the gathered parameters with the stored ones and determining the operating characteristics of the unidentified sensor. Eight data vectors characterising known faulty and normal sensors are stored including rich and lean voltages and switching times both as averages and standard deviations; these vectors being supplemented by statistics generated by Monte Carlo techniques. All the data are used to train classifiers, Figure 2. The method is used to detect faults in an onboard sensor in a vehicle. <IMAGE>
