<p>In Switzerland alone, over 220,000 skis a year are discarded, putting a burden on the environment and demanding time and space. Refuse containers and refuse incineration plants are no place for skis. The skis which are no longer suitable for sporting purposes still have, however, their chemical-physical properties, in a way similar to wind-powered rotor blades. Their suitability for reuse is a result of the adhesion and heat-deformation properties. Mechanical working by existing machines and tools, comparable with metal, plastic and wood processing, is possible. Operations such as specific bending, sawing, comminution and also joining together in series and adjacently provide ways in which the ski can be used as a novel means of construction for the building, furniture and vehicle industries. Taken in this order: as ski cavity panels for roofs, walls, ceilings, floors and ski assemblies as supporting columns, furniture for sitting, reclining and sleeping, including with vibrating gratings, land vehicle bodywork, boat and shipbuilding, hull frames, deck planks, superstructures for a self-powered motor sailing ship with solar panel and ship's mast wind converter.</p> |
