Illumination device

An illumination device is described for illuminating a plane useful surface in accordance with a predetermined characteristic. The device is distinguished by the combination of a strip-shaped light guide with a glass body, the light inlet surface and the light outlet surface of the glass body consisting of optically active surfaces which are pressed so as to be shiny. These optically active surfaces may either be aspheric surfaces, but they can also be hand-forged surfaces, or they may also consist of a combination of both types of surfaces. The light inlet surface and the light outlet surface of the glass body may in particular be at an angle relative towards each other. In this case, the glass body has a mirrored surface which deflects the illumination beams from the one surface to the other surface.
