High strength austenitic alloy steels contg. 10% pref. 1% Cr comprising basically 0.25-0.45% C, 0.5-2.5% V, 15-30% Mn balance Fe and inevitable impurities hardenable by precipitation of vanadium carbides to a UTS >=120 H bar and a 0.2% Proof stress of 110 H bar. 6% Mo and/or W may be added to produce further precipitable carbides giving increased strength and wear resistance, at a potential loss of elasticity and possible brittleness. The alloys are much cheaper than prior art alloys of similar strength and hardness (40 HRC) which contained 14-15% Cr.
|
