1,211,403. Porous sintered zinc bodies. P.R. MALLORY & CO. Inc. March 18, 1968 [March 17, 1967], No.13063/68. Headings C7D. [Also in Division H1] Porous sintered amalgamated Zn bodies e.g. anodes, are made by exothermic reaction sintering of a compacted powder mixture of Zn, mercuric chloride, and a sintering agent e.g. halides of ammonia and Al, hydrazine hydrochloride and ammonium acid oxalate which liberate 10-50 Kcal/ mole on reaction with the oxide film on the Zn, and removing the excess reaction product as by leaching in acetone water or heating to e.g. 140‹C. The powder mixture contains 40-80% Zn particle size 200-850 microns, 1-10%mercuric chloride, 10-60% sintering agents. Compacting is effected at 1000- 20, 00 p.s.i. and the resultant amalgamated Zn body has a porosity of 10-85%. |
