Light-wt non inflammable polymers - contg melamine synthetic thermoplastics and foaming agent

Light-wt. materials with self-extinguishing properties contain 65-85% by wt. of melamine and 10-35% by wt. of a thermoplastic synthetic material, pref. a mainly-isotactic polypropylene with 20-30% atactic content, polyethylene or polystyrene. The material contains the normal additives and pref. a foaming agent, and may be formed by compression, extrusion or injection moulding. Used as internal or external decoration for houses and furniture. Use of melamine gives self-extinguishing properties without the danger of corrosive gases being evolved.
