<p>Material is placed on an inclined perforated support, inclined at an angle greater than the angle of repose of the material, and is maintained as a uniform thickness layer, whilst hot air is passed upwards through it to dry it. Pref. the uniform thickness layer is allowed to form automatically by allowing the material to flow under gravity down the support, with a number of transverse spreaders across the flow path to brake flow and maintain chosen thickness. Process is esp. for drying foodstuffs, e.g. cereals etc., with minimal attrition and uniform drying.</p> |
