PRODUCTION OF ALPHA-METHYLSTYRENE UNSATURATED DIMER

摘要

PURPOSE:To improve the selectivity of unsaturated dimer in the dimerization reaction of alpha-methylstyrene using activated clay or acid clay as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:This process for the production of alpha-methylstyrene dimer is carried out by dropping 1 pt.wt. of alpha-methylstyrene into a mixture of 0.0005-0.1 pts.wt. of activated clay or acid clay and 0.05-1 pt.wt. of a carbonic acid ester such as diethyl carbonate and ethylene carbonate while heating the mixture on an oil bath. The process facilitates the control of the reaction temperature, decreases the by-production of saturated dimer or trimer and improves the production selectivity of the unsaturated dimer.
