PURPOSE: To accommodate for a variation in pressure of predetermined volume of a gas enclosed in a fuel tank by a method, wherein a valve means can be moved by liquid flow to a position where a flow passages is shut off and to perform a fast shutting-off of an instant liquid flow to a cap at a tank-pouring tube. CONSTITUTION: Gas normally passes through an inlet 30, flows through a clearance between the spacers 42, passes through an outlet 32 and is discharged out to surrounding atmosphere through a valve means 18. Or in the case that vacuum is partially present within a tank, the gas passes through an inverse flow passage. Since the valve member 34 can freely move in an axial direction and a diameter direction, when the liquid flow comes from the inlet 30, the gas is moved in an upward direction towards the outlet 32 to shut off the outlet 32. A compression spring 43 is arranged between a cover 28 and the valve member 34, and when the water stopping function is not operated, the valve member 34 is gradually displaced against a bottom section 26 of a valve barrel 22. For example, when fuel is moved rapidly under striking action to cause the valve member 34 to be pushed against an annular sealing surface 36 enclosing the outlet 32, a gasket 40 cooperates with the sealing surface 36 to form an airtight holding seal. |
