PURPOSE:To improve ink absorption capacity without damaging the density, feathering aptitude and sharpness of a recorded image by controlling the ink permeation time of an ink jet recording sheet within a specific range. CONSTITUTION:An ink jet recording sheet with a basis wt. of 60g/m<2> is stationarily placed on the liquid surface of ink jet recording ink and the ink is allowed to permeate the sheet from the surface on the liquid surface side of the recording sheet to the opposite surface thereof. The ink permeation time of the recording sheet at this time is set to 30sec or less, pref., 1.1-5sec. In the ink jet recording sheet wherein an ink receiving layer is provided on a support, the coating amt. of the ink receiving layer is 1-10g/m<2> and, pref., the component of the ink receiving layer is mainly constituted of cationic colloidal particles. When the surface of the ink receiving layer is stationarily placed on the liquid surface of ink jet recording ink of which the surface tension is 20-60dyne/cm at 20 deg.C, the ink permeation time of the ink receiving layer is 15sec or less and, more pref., the ink permeation time of the support is 60sec or less. |
