[Also in Division F2] A tool for inserting internally and externally screwed inserts 10 into an aluminium workpiece 15 comprises a body 20 having a wrench engaging end 22, and a stud 30, adapted to have limited rotational and axially slidable movement in a bore of the body. The stud has a screw threaded portion 34 for screwing into the insert, a pilot end 32, and a slot 35 angled relative to the axis of the stud at an angle greater than the pitch angle of the screw thread 34. Slot 35 co-operates with a pin 36 held in a slot 38 in the body by a plastics sleeve (45), Fig. 1 (not shown), shrunk on to the body. In operation, the insert is screwed on to stud 30 and the insert is screwed into workpiece 15 until the end 25 engages the chamfer 26 on the workpiece. When the tool is rotated in the opposite direction it is released from the insert due to the difference in pitch angle between the pin and slot 36, 38 and the screw threads 34, 16. A locking member 18 of plastics material is provided. |
