PURPOSE:To provide a method for easily producing an aromatic dicarboxylic acid diaryl ester sulfonic acid salt from inexpensive raw materials by the use of a conventional ester exchange reaction device, the production of the aromatic dicarboxylic acid diaryl ester sulfonic acid salt having been difficult. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic dicarboxylic acid dialkyl ester sulfonic acid salt of formula I (R1, R2 are 1-6C alkyl; M<+> is alkalu metal ion) us reacted with a diaryl carbonate of formula II (R<3> is H, 1-6C alkyl, aryl), preferably diphenyl carbonate, in an amount of 2-3 moles, preferably 2-2.5 moles, per mole of the compound of formula I in the presence of an ester exchange catalyst at 250-320 deg.C, preferably 270-300 deg.C, in a thermally melted state to obtain an aromatic dicarboxylic acid diaryl ester sulfonic acid salt of formula III. The ester exchange catalyst includes all of catalysts used for ordinary ester exchange reactions, and is preferably used in an amount of 0.0003-0.02 mole, especially 0.003-0.01 mole, per mole of the compound of formula I. |
