PURPOSE:To apply printing of high image quality to any paper and to realize smooth gradation properties by eliminating a tailing phenomenon and preventing the blur of an image. CONSTITUTION:An ink layer 27 having phase transfer properties or phase transfer and overcooling properties formed on the conductive support 26 of an ink supply feed member 25 is heated corresponding to an image signal by a thermal head 28 and the heated ink layer 27 is subjected to phase transfer corresponding to heating quantity to be liquefied. The ink 33 of the liquefied and charged ink layer 27 is transferred to the recording paper 30 arranged in contact with or in close vicinity to the ink layer 27 by electrostatic attraction due to an electrostatic field using a transfer electric field forming roller before cooled and solidified to form an image.
