It comprises a sliding rod 2 and means for imparting to it an alternating linear movement which comprise a double- acting hydraulic cylinder 4 whose piston 3 is integral with the rod 2 of the apparatus, a distributor device which successively places each side of the cylinder in communication with a pressurized fluid take-off and a return conduit, and vice-versa, means for monitoring said distributor device 5 on the basis of the movement of the rod 2, and means 15 for monitoring, as desired, the frequency of the movement of the rod 2. The distributor may be reciprocating and rotary or reciprocating and linear. In the first case, a shaft 6 integral with the distributor has an arm 7 which interacts with two projections 21, 22 on the rod. In the second case, a jacket 14 with passage holes 17, 18 governs the movement of the piston 3 and is controlled in turn on the basis of the actual movement of the rod 2. It is simple to handle as it is very light in weight and can be started up and stopped without the need for stopping the motor. <IMAGE>
