The system is shown in Figure 1 and is characterized in that it consists of the following elements: the steering wheel 1 which actuates (by means of the shaft 2) the drive pinion 3 which meshes with the screw 4 which can not only be displaced laterally but which can also rotate, having, for this purpose, the guides 5 on which the toothed crown 6 slides, meshing with the toothed wheel 7 which is actuated by the electric stepping motor 8, said motor being regulated by the electronic control module 9 in accordance with data received from the steering wheel rotation sensors 10 and vehicle speed sensors 11. The screw 4 terminates at its ends in the knuckle joints 12a and 12b to which are connected the coupling bars 13a and 13b, respectively, which finally will rotate the wheels. <IMAGE>
