The device for protecting a torch at the electric welder or plasma cutting device, monitors the state of the welding torch electronically, cut off the main power-supply and alarms the abnormal state of the torch when the current reaches near the torch damage region. The device comprises a pressure switch (41) for detecting the pressure of the gas pipe (a); a solenoid valve (42) for switching the supply of the gas; a thermo meter (43) for detecting the temp. of the cooling water; a bimetal switch (44) for switching the supply of the cooling water; a current detecting sensor (CT) for detecting the welding/cutting current; a voltage detecting sensor (VT) for detecting arc voltage of the output; an ultrasonic sensor (40) for measuring distance echoed from the welding material (3).
