This waste collector comprises a collection unit (terminal) (3) installed above the ground (2) above a pit (4) enclosing a chamber for receiving the waste (14) and a chamber for grouping together and extracting the waste (15). The collection unit (3) includes an opening (8) for insertion of the waste, associated with selection means for this waste, and an inner shaft (7) via which the waste falls into the reception chamber (14). A thrust blade (17) compacts the waste and transfers it from the reception chamber (14) towards the chamber (16) where this waste is grouped together in a container (27) enabling it to be extracted via a hatch (6).
