PURPOSE:To obtain the data transmitter capable of synchronizing a video signal and an audio signal at all times independently of the information quantity of the video signal and utilizing a transmission line efficiently. CONSTITUTION:Video data quantized and variable-length-coded are stored in a buffer memory 105 and audio data are stored in an audio memory 108. Data stored in both the memories are subject to fixed length format processing by a formatter 109. The presence of the audio data is detected by an audio input detection circuit 107 and the data storage quantity of the buffer memory 105 is controlled within a predetermined range by controlling a quantization step size based on a control signal in response to the data quantity of the buffer memory 105 and the result of detection. |
