Process for manufacturing turned columns composed of a tubular profile of variable circular cross section which includes portions with reductions of peripheral cross section of different outlines separated by projecting portions, also of different outlines and with a maximum diameter coinciding with that of the profile, configuring overall an external surface of turned appearance. This profile is subjected to a transverse deformation operation, applying, to the projecting portions, external forces which act in opposite directions in accordance with two perpendicular directions, giving rise to the partial flattening of said portions. <IMAGE>
