PURPOSE:To provide an image discrimination device capable of making an accurate a discrimination as to whether securities (printed matter) such as a note, a gift certificate, a stamp and a postage stamp are authentic or formed out of toner used in a dry electronic photograph, as well as capable of realizing simple constitution and an inexpensive and portable structure. CONSTITUTION:This device has a portable case 1, a heating member 13 attached to the surface thereof, a control circuit 11 housed in the case 1 for controlling the surface temperature of the member 13 at level between 50 deg.C and 250 deg.C, a power supply 20 for the circuit 11, a switch 5 for turning on and off the supply of power to the circuit 11, and a pressing means 2 for pressing printed material 22 to the surface of the member 13. The printed matter 22 is pressed to the surface of the member 13 with the means 2 and heated, thereby detecting a change in the image surface of the material 22 or the existence of a deposit on the member 13. Then, a discrimination is made as to whether the image of the printed matter 22 is formed out of a coloring agent mainly composed of thermoplastic resin, on the basis of the detected result. |
