The invention relates to a device for controlling a parking brake for a motor vehicle, comprising: . an operating lever (1) to be connected to a brake actuation cable, mounted pivotably about an axis (X) between a brake released position and a brake applied position, . locking means capable of maintaining the operating lever in its brake applied position, and . unlocking means (3) for permitting the pivoting of the operating lever to its brake released position. The locking means include a guide (100) which is independent of the operating lever and a blocking piece (200), capable of being moved over the guide by the operating lever during its pivoting to its brake applied position and capable of being jammed against the guide in order to oppose the pivoting of the operating lever to its brake released position. <IMAGE>
