A radar transmits pulses with a high form factor, and recurrence at 100 kHz, on a frequency obtained by combining an agile component (Fa) selected at random, and a component (Fb) which is linearly frequency modulated. Reception compensates, in terms of frequency, on the one hand for the agility (225, 230), on the other hand for the modulation (240, 242, 244), as well as for the average Doppler effect (210, 211) before synchronous demodulation (234, 236). The sampled and digitised signals are subjected to phase rotations (260) depending on the agile frequency used on transmission. After these phase rotations, n distinct channels are defined, each consisting of a prefiltering (275) and of a bank of Doppler filters (280). By aiming-off the antenna of the radar, it is possible to acquire the inclination of the target. <IMAGE>
