[Also in Divisions B6 and G1] Paper PP, Fig. 1, is selectively advanceable in two perpendicular directions by complementary assemblies C, L of pinch rollers, each assembly including a pair of drive rollers such as T-DL, T<SP>1</SP>-DL and a pair of idler rollers T-IL, T<SP>1</SP>-IL, the idler rollers being rotatably mounted on a flexible frame F-IL for flexure towards the drive rollers under a magnetic field generated by a solenoid such as C-DL. The assemblies may be separate as in Fig. 1, or may be nested as in Fig. 2. The solenoid may be coaxial with the drive rollers, or may be U-shaped (Fig. 14, not shown) with legs (SL, SL<SP>1</SP>) each adjacent one of a pair of drive rollers (dW, dW<SP>1</SP>). Each pinch roller assembly may be inoperative with the rollers separated, or may hold the paper PP in position by being urged together, with the drive rollers stationary, or may feed the paper by being urged together with the drive rollers driven, e.g. by a stepping motor. The drive to the drive rollers may be reversed.
