The subject of the present invention is a process for the preparation of fuchsones. The process for the preparation of a fuchsone according to the invention, which consists in reacting a phenol compound having at least one hydrogen atom in the para position and a non-enolisable ketone compound in the presence of an acid catalyst, is characterised in that the reaction is carried out in the presence of an effective amount of an ionisable sulphur-containing compound.
