PURPOSE:To obtain high-contrast and bright display and to also obtain the achromatic display even in the case of half tone. CONSTITUTION:Since the distortion angle of a liquid crystal molecule 20 is set to be 220 deg.-260 deg. and one sheet of polarizing plate 15 is used, the absorption of light is reduced and the display is made bright. Besides, the steepness of an electro-optical characteristic is increased and the capacity of the display is increased. Since the retadation value of a liquid crystal layer 13 and an optical phase compensation film 14 and an angle made by the plate 15, the film 14 and the layer 13 are regulated to be optimized, the display color is made achromatic even when it is turned to be the half tone. |
