<p>PURPOSE:To display high-grade images of a high contrast. CONSTITUTION:This active matrix element has pixel electrodes 15 forming display pixels, image signal electrodes 17 arranged in superposition on a part of the pixel electrodes 15 via nonlinear conduction layers 16, a dielectric layer 18 and scanning signal electrodes 19 arranged in superposition on a part of the pixel electrodes 15 via the nonlinear conduction layer 16. As a result, the switching of liquid crystal materials is executed by moving the charges between the image signal electrodes 17 and the pixel electrodes 15 and the ease of the movement of the charges is controlled by the scanning signal voltages applied to the scanning signal electrodes 19 and, therefore, the moving charge quantity is extremely slight and the charges move hardly in the state that the scanning signal voltages are not applied and only the signal voltages are applied to the image signal electrodes 17. The leakage of the charges accumulated in the pixel electrodes 15 is, therefore, suppressed and the charge accumulating capacity of the pixel electrodes 15 is high. The good-quality images having the high contrast are thus displayed.</p> |
