The invention relates to a method, and to a device for carrying out the method, for determining the integral blood flow in a limb of the human or animal body. A magnetic field is generated at right angles to the longitudinal extent of the limb and can be turned about the limb; the ions transported in the blood experience a change of direction in relation to their actual direction of movement within the vessel; an electric voltage is established at right angles to the magnetic field direction and to the direction of movement of the ions; and electrodes are placed along the length of the limb, on which electrodes the electric voltage is measured and with which the position of the magnetic field is recorded.
