The invention relates to a telescopic mechanism comprising thin-walled box-shaped girders which are exposed to high torsional loading, in particular for a length-changeable load-receiving means, preferably for a container crossmember, extension arms or the like. The object of the invention is to configure a telescopic mechanism such that, in addition to bending stresses, high torsional stresses which occur are absorbed, in particular in the case of thin-walled box-shaped girders. This object is achieved according to the invention in that box-shaped girders plugged one into the other exhibit, in at least two diagonally opposite corners, longitudinal guide means which are in mutual engagement.
