It is known to use a microlens array to increase the effective opening ratio. By means of this process, it is not possible to use 100 % of the effective opening ratio. It is the object to increase the effective opening ratio of liquid crystal light valves. This object is achieved in that, instead of the microlens array, an optical fibre array is used. In this case it is advantageous that, as a result of the total reflections, an effective opening ratio of 100 % is achieved. Especially for projection television and projection video. <IMAGE>
