1351173 Cutting tiles OPORTO CERAMICS Ltd 28 June 1971 [13 April 1971] 9202/71 Heading B5E [Also in Division C1] A device for cutting a tile or glass comprises a pair of co-operating jaws 2, 3, one 2 of the jaws having a transversely curved groove 4 in its face positioned centrally between and parallel with its side edges 6, the faces on each side of the groove being inclined outwardly towards the other jaw 3, the said other jaw having a face or edge 9 for making line contact with a tile positioned between the jaws. The face of the jaw 2 may be smooth or faced to prevent damage to the tile. The jaw 2 is formed with lugs 10 to embrace a carrier 7 to which it is secured by a rivet 11. The carrier may be part of a machine or, as described, a hand tool in the form of a pair of pliers having a second carrier 8 for the jaw 3 which has a knife edge 3 aligned with the groove 4 and carries a wheel 12 for scoring the tile to be cut, the score line then being aligned with the edge 9 and groove 4. |
