Reduced-length trailer hitch system

A description is given of a reduced-length trailer hitch system (trailer coupling system) for the cornering-dependent change in the distance between a tractor (1) and a trailer (4) of road trains, with at least one two-axle trailer (4) having a steerable front axle which is designed as a fifth wheel (5) and the drawbar (3) of which is fastened, in a manner which allows it to swivel, in a hitch (2) of the tractor (1). The reduced-length trailer hitch system is characterised in that the drawbar (3) can be adjusted in its length by means of a working cylinder (15) and in that angle of rotation sensors (8, 10) are arranged on the fifth wheel (5) of the trailer (4) and on the hitch (2) of the tractor (1), which sensors, as a function of their angular position, control the working cylinder (15), which is connected to a pressure source, in such a manner that when a certain angle of rotation is exceeded the length of the drawbar (3) is increased. The reduced-length trailer hitch system is distinguished by high operational safety and by a simple construction (in conjunction with Figure 1). <IMAGE>
