In order to design a drag chain, for the horizontal transportation of helical compression springs through a shot-peening installation, driveable by sprocket wheels, in which the chain links have drivers for the helical compression springs and two rollers rotating in the same direction are arranged beside the drivers, in such a way that friction lines at the helical compression springs can be avoided, the chain links (3, 4) are designed with their drivers as tool carriers which have centring and clamping tools with rotatable spring receptacles (9), the drag chain (1) being lowered in the shot-peening region (12) such that the clamping and centring tools (8) can be brought into contact by way of their spring receptacles (9), which have a larger diameter than the helical compression springs (10), with the rollers (11) rotating in the same direction. <IMAGE>
