A device for fastening a ceiling cladding on the underside of a building ceiling exhibits two retaining brackets (6, 7) which intersect without contact and each exhibit a bracket web (9 and 10, respectively) arranged at the point of intersection as well as two retaining legs (11, 12 and 13, 14, respectively) which project in the manner of a U from said bracket web to the side directed towards the bracket web (10 and 9, respectively) of the other retaining web and are themselves, in the use position, directed towards the building ceiling or the ceiling cladding. The bracket webs (9, 10) of the two retaining brackets (6, 7) are kept at a distance from one another by means of an elastomeric damping body (8) and rest against the mutually opposite end sides (15, 16) of the damping body (8), which is entirely arranged between the bracket webs (9, 10). The damping body (8) is of such a height, measured between the bracket webs (9, 10), that the two bracket webs (9, 10), at least in the use position, under the weight of the ceiling cladding, are arranged such that they are offset in each case by the width of an air gap out of the respectively facing ceiling-side or cladding-side fastening plane. <IMAGE>
