A rectangular egg tray (10) has upwardly open pockets (12) for receiving eggs, said pockets being situated in rows (14 and 16) extending in mutually intersecting directions, said pockets being formed by side-wall regions, partly of upright posts (18) in the form of upwardly converging truncated pyramids placed between the pockets, the top surfaces (22) of said posts (18) constituting abutment surfaces for a further tray stacked upon the tray shown, partly of intermediate walls (20) extending between the posts (18). The spacing between the centres of the pockets (12) is greater in the rows (16) extending in one of said directions than in the rows (14) extending in the other of said directions.
