The invention relates to a neck pad for stabilising the neck, consisting of a U-shaped pad (1) which is placed around the back of the neck and, with its pad limbs (2), rests on the shoulder on both sides of the neck. In the curved area between the two pad limbs (2), the pad has elastic tensioning straps which extend parallel to the U-plane and form a gathering region for tightening so that the two pad limbs (2) are pulled together elastically at an acute angle and their free ends (8) touch when not in use and are spread apart when the neck pad is put on. The end sections (9) of the pad limbs are inclined downwards out of the U-plane. <IMAGE>
