Drive device for sliding windows and sliding doors

The drive device for sliding windows and sliding doors consists of a feed drive unit and of a coupling drive unit. The force transmission between a gearwheel of the feed drive unit and the movable part of the sliding door or sliding window takes place via a rack connected to the movable part. For coupling and uncoupling the drive, the engagement of the gearwheel and rack is respectively accomplished and cancelled. For this purpose, the feed drive unit is mounted movably and is moved by the coupling drive unit via an elastic coupling member. The coupling drive is preferably designed with a bistable action and has a device for alternative manual actuation. Furthermore, the drive device is equipped with means for recognising the opening or closing state of the sliding door or sliding window.
