A method and apparatus for distributing granular material within a container (12). The apparatus includes a member (10) for uniformly distributing the granular material with the container by absorbing momentum from the inflow of the granular material. The method includes forming at least two flow paths for the inflow of granular material and then changing the flow of granular material through each of the flow paths to cause a substantially even distribution of granular material with the container.
