1275894 Nipple joints for furnace electrodes C CONRADTY 17 Nov 1970 [13 Jan 1970] 54633/70 Heading H5H In order to prevent rotation of a threaded nipple 2 in the threaded sockets of carbon or graphite electrode sections 1, each end of the nipple has an axial recess 3 in which is non- rotatably mounted a member 5 e.g. of carbon, provided with radial serrations 6 on its side adjacent the socket bottom, and the member 5 is axially movable by the thermal expansion of an expansible carbonizable cement 4 positioned in the bottom of the recess 3 to bring its serrations 6 into complementary looking engagement with radial serrations 7 provided on the socket bottom. The heat of the furnace causes the expansion and carbonization of the cement, and the space 8 between the nipple and bottom of the socket receives excess cement. The bottom recess 3 shows the cement 4 unexpanded.
|
