<p>Magnetic disks are coated with a solid or liquid phase lubricant comprising a guest-host complex, wherein the guest component is a lubricant. In examples the host is based on crown ether compounds eg dibenzo-18-crown-6 ether, its 4,4'-diamino derivative, N,N'-dibenzyl-4,13-diaza-18-crown-6 ether or cycloinulohexaose, and the lubricant is stearic acid, K or Cu stearate, stearylamine, beta -(N,N- diheptadecylaminocarbonyl) propionic acid or its K or Ag salt, or a perfluorinated polyether. The components may be applied together, eg from a common solvent, or sequentially. It is stated the host component adheres electrostatically to the substrate whereby the guest component is trapped at a suitable orientation for lubrication.</p> |
