PURPOSE:To easily connect a lower supporting member with a small number of stages by positioning the lower supporting member so that a slight clearance is left between a porous glass body as the core rod for optical fiber and the lower supporting member and depositing a fine glass particle on the junction by a burner for synthesizing the fine glass particle. CONSTITUTION:A glass forming raw gas and a combustion gas are supplied to a burner 1 for synthesizing a fine glass particle, and the gases are flame- hydrolyzed to synthesize a fine glass particle. The particle is deposited on the lower end of an upper supporting member 3 which is held and rotated by a lifting device including a holding member 2 and pulled up to form a porous glass body 4. A lower supporting member 6 is inserted from an insertion port 5 and gradually raised. A slight clearance is left between the lower end of the glass body 4 and the supporting member 6, the member 6 is positioned so that the body is coaxial with the member, then the particle is synthesized by the burner 1 and deposited around the opposed surfaces of the body 4 and member 6, and the body is connected to the member. |
