PURPOSE:To provide a method for production of a sialon-aluminium nitride composite powder, capable of accurately and reproducibly controlling the ratio of sialon/aluminium nitride. CONSTITUTION:A powdery carbonaceous mater is admixed with powdery sialon represented by a general formula: Si6-zAlzOzN8-z (z<=4.2) and calcined in a nitrogen current at 1500 to 1700 deg.C for >=1hr. According to this method in which the powdery sialon and the powdery carbonaceous mater are used as the starting raw materials, only an aluminium nitride formation reaction takes place by the reductive nitriding of sialon in calcination. The amount of produced aluminium nitride depends only on the amount of added carbon and the reaction is completed at a point of time when carbon is consumed up. Accordingly, this production method can reproducibly produce a sialon-aluminium nitride composite powder in which the ratio of sialon/aluminium nitride is accurately controlled. |
