CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER

PURPOSE: To protect the lateral edge of an intumescent mounting mat from being eroded by making glass particles contained in an edge protectant of glass having a specific softening point and specifying the total weight of a binder and the glass particles to the total weight of the edge protectant. CONSTITUTION: In the catalyst converter 10 provided with the edge protectant 34, the mounting mat 30 holds a catalytic converter element 20 at the specified position in the metallic casing 11 to absorb its mechanical vibration and the edge protectant 34 covers at least a part of the lateral edge 33 of the mounting mat 30 to protect the lateral edge 33 from being eroded by the high temperature gas contacting with it. The edge protectant 34 contains about 5-85 wt.% binder and about 95-15 wt.% glass particles made of the glass having at least about 350 deg.C softening point and the total weight of the binder and the glass particles is adjusted to at least 20 wt.% of the total weight of the edge protectant 34.
